You'd be hard pressed to find an area hit harder by the economic collapse than Detroit. As the city and its neighborhoods and businesses began to rebuild, the Detroit Lions and Ford Field made a commitment to be one of the most progressive in their efforts to be a green as possible. And while the Motor City and "green" don't seem to go hand-in-hand, that was exactly the point. The Lions, Ford Field, Matthew Stafford and Repreve partnered together to make a commitment that 100% of the plastic bottles used at Lions home games would be recycled.
It took 195,000 recycled plastic bottles to make the 65,000 rally towels that were given to each fan at Ford Field, creating a sea of green and blue during the Lions home game. Combine that with the thousands of bottles used to make signage, t-shirts, beanies and more, and the partnership between the Lions, Ford Field and Repreve helped save over 250,000 bottles from landfills. The gameday promotion was picked up by 840 media channels, which provided over 250 million impressions, and even more importantly to Lions fans—a victory over Tampa Bay.
During the two year sponsorship with the Lions, we designed several different skins that were featured on the official Detroit Lions website to promote various activations, social campaigns, giveaways and more.
We designed custom Lions helmets that we used as the featured prize in several different giveaways. We custom made each helmet in-house, from scratch, including disassembling, painting, applying decals and re-assembling. While these won't be making it onto an NFL field anytime soon, they made for a pretty impressive one-of-a-kind keepsake for Lions fans.
Absolutely love the design. Danielle DeLuca, The Detroit Lions, Corporate Partnership Services
Our work with the Lions took us way outside of digital. And we'll gladly admit that we enjoy getting our hands dirty. From the custom helmets to an 8-foot tall recycle bin that we built from scratch, from practice jerseys for the Lions quarterbacks to a custom football jersey for our sweepstakes winner, we definitely took green outside the screen in Detroit.
The "Make the Smart Throw" Sweepstakes was a week-long event in which one lucky person won the opportunity to go on the field at half-time during a Detroit Lions home game to compete for a chance to win $75,000. We designed and built the microsite for the sweepstakes, along with designs for both Repreve's and the Lions' social channels and websites. In just one week the website was viewed over 12,000 times and received over 8,700 entries.
